Every You Every Me
Nadine rushes through her husband’s workplace. Paul has locked himself in: just before his scheduled job interview begins, he is overcome by a panic attack. Nadine tries to calm her husband down. When viewers also catch a glimpse of Paul, they see a large, nervous cow. This moment of surprise marks the start of an unconventionally and unexpectedly told love story. Set against the backdrop of a coal-mining region near Cologne, where the couple both work, Michael Fetter Nathansky portrays the complexity of a relationship in a social-realist manner. Visible only to Nadine, Paul’s different emotional states manifest themselves as separate figures. The film explores questions of identity and subjectivity within a romantic relationship. Is Paul’s personality splitting apart? How reliable is Nadine’s perception of her husband?
